This week is National Apprenticeship Week and as DIO’s Graduate and Apprenticeship Lead, I’d like to share the work I’ve done to support our apprentices in navigating through the covid-19 pandemic.
In Belize, we often cope with tropical storms, flash floods, extreme weather and widespread fires, although the COVID pandemic was a new one last year! Being ready for these types of events has been crucial.
It has been a busy and challenging year for DIO. In addition to supporting the government’s wider COVID-19 relief efforts, we continued to deliver on a range of key projects and programmes for our customers and staff throughout the UK and abroad. Let’s look back at some of the year’s main achievements.
Under Project Wellesley, we’ve been busy developing the new tri-service facility at the Defence College of Logistics, Policing and Administration. Since 2017, a total of 27 buildings have been handed over.
My early service in the Royal Engineers was in armored engineer roles in the UK and Germany, with deployments to the Falkland Islands, Angola, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan, and exercises in Canada, Poland, Belize, Australia and Cyprus.
The coronavirus outbreak has posed many challenges for facilities management staff, partners and our customers but we have strong relationships with one another and this has made it much easier to respond to the current crisis.
On the 3rd December, I attended the annual MOD Sanctuary Awards and as we come to the end of the Year of Green Action, it was a great time to reflect on our responsibility to preserve and nurture our estate.
